US and Israeli forces strike Iran as Trump declares the start of “major combat operations.”

US President Donald Trump says the United States has begun “major combat operations” in Iran after Israel announced it had launched missile strikes on the country.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say they have carried out the first large-scale wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting Israel.

Bahrain reports a missile attack aimed at the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters, while Qatar says it intercepted a missile. An explosion has also been reported in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and several countries in the region have closed their airspace.

Multiple explosions have been heard in Tehran, Iran’s capital, with blasts also reported in other parts of the country.

There has been no immediate official response from Iranian authorities, but state media says President Masoud Pezeshkian is “safe and sound.”
