Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined a forward-looking vision for artificial intelligence under the banner of ‘MANAV’, emphasising that technology must remain guided by human values, ethics and accountability.

Speaking at a national platform focused on AI and emerging technologies, the Prime Minister underscored that while artificial intelligence has transformative potential for economic growth and governance, it must not outpace human oversight. The central message of the MANAV framework is clear: AI should empower humanity, not replace or overpower it.

What is the MANAV Vision?

The MANAV approach positions India’s AI development around:

  • Human-centric innovation

  • Ethical safeguards

  • Responsible deployment

  • Inclusive access

The Prime Minister highlighted that AI must be designed to strengthen sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education and governance, while ensuring transparency and fairness in its applications.

Human Control Over Automation

PM Modi stressed that artificial intelligence should operate under clear regulatory and ethical boundaries. He reiterated that technological advancement should not come at the cost of human judgement, employment stability or societal balance.

He called for:

  • Greater collaboration between governments, academia and industry

  • Investment in AI skill development

  • Frameworks that ensure accountability in automated decision-making

India’s AI Ambition

India is positioning itself as a major global player in AI innovation, backed by a growing digital infrastructure, large talent pool and expanding startup ecosystem. The MANAV vision seeks to combine this ambition with governance principles that safeguard public interest.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of developing AI solutions that are affordable, accessible and aligned with India’s developmental priorities.

The Larger Message

The broader takeaway from the MANAV vision is that India aims to pursue AI leadership with responsibility. Rather than treating AI purely as a technological race, the focus is on shaping an ecosystem where innovation is balanced with ethics and long-term societal benefit.

In a world rapidly adapting to automation and intelligent systems, India’s stance under the MANAV framework reinforces one principle: technology must remain a tool in human hands — not the other way around.
