Ceasefire hopes
A Reuters report said the US and Iran have both received a plan to end the war — and it could happen soon. If the deal goes through, the Strait of Hormuz (a key oil shipping route) would reopen. This was the single biggest reason markets bounced back. However, Iran clarified it will not reopen the Strait as part of a temporary ceasefire only.
Rupee got stronger
The Indian rupee rose 33 paise to ₹92.85 against the US dollar. The RBI stepped in and set stricter limits on banks' currency bets. A stronger rupee is good for markets — it signals stability. That said, foreign investors are still pulling money out, which keeps some pressure on the currency.
Banks led the rally
Banking stocks were the biggest winners of the day. Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Canara Bank, and others rose up to 3%. The Nifty Bank index hit an intraday high of 52,339. Q4 results for banks and NBFCs are expected to be strong, which also boosted confidence.
Broader market also rose
It wasn't just large companies — mid-sized and small companies rose too. Nifty Midcap 100 was up 1.52% and Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 1.29%. Realty, PSU Banks, Auto, FMCG and IT all closed higher. Only pharma and energy stocks stayed in the red.
Watch out for
Oil prices are still above $110 a barrel, and the Middle East conflict isn't over. Foreign investors are still selling Indian shares. Analysts expect more volatility ahead — markets will move sharply on any war-related news, good or bad.
