Rupee Hits All-Time Low of ₹92.57 Against the Dollar
The Indian rupee slipped on Wednesday, March 18 to breach ₹92.57 against the US dollar — a fresh all-time low — as escalating Middle East tensions kept crude oil prices elevated, raising economic risks for India and dampening capital inflows. The move comes on the same day as the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision, adding further uncertainty.
The rupee surpassed its previous all-time low of ₹92.4750, recorded just last week, underscoring the sustained selling pressure on the Indian currency driven by the prolonged US-Iran war and its impact on global energy markets.
Despite the currency weakness, Indian stock markets showed resilience, rallying for a third straight session, tracking gains across global peers even as geopolitical tensions and elevated crude prices remained a concern.
