📌 STORY 01 · MARKET REBOUND & FMCG SUPPORT
SENSEX REBOUNDS 333 POINTS; NIFTY RECLAIMS 23,200 ON VALUE BUYING
Indian equity benchmarks snapped their two-day losing streak on Wednesday, September 16, rebounding on value buying in banking and FMCG stocks after the previous session's sharp selloff. The Nifty 50 settled at 23,217.60, gaining 99 points or 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex climbed 332.63 points, or 0.45%, to close at 74,336.45 [citation:1][citation:8].
The market opened on a firm note, with the Nifty touching an intraday high of 23,284.75, but gave up some gains through the session. The index found strong support near the 23,100 level and recovered smartly [citation:16][citation:15].
Key Driver: FMCG emerged as the top sectoral gainer, with Nifty FMCG surging 1.82%. PSU Bank rose 1.27%, Private Bank gained 0.73%, and Metal advanced 0.68%. IT was the sole major laggard, with Nifty IT falling 1.79% as TCS, Wipro, and Infosys witnessed profit booking [citation:8].
Sector Rotation: The rebound was broad-based, with Real Estate, Banking, and Oil & Gas sectors propelling gains. Large-cap stocks led the recovery, while midcaps and smallcaps remained subdued [citation:9].

RUPIE SPEAK: A much-needed relief rally. Nifty held the 23,100 support and reclaimed 23,200. FMCG and banks led from the front. But IT stocks are facing profit booking after their recent outperformance. The Fed decision tonight is the key trigger to watch.
📈 STORY 02 · OIL REMAINS ELEVATED
BRENT CRUDE HOLDS ABOVE $107; MIDDLE EAST SUPPLY FEARS PERSIST
Brent crude oil futures remained elevated above $107 per barrel on Wednesday, hovering near a four-month high as disruptions to Middle Eastern oil infrastructure kept supply concerns alive. Brent was trading at around $107.82 a barrel, down 0.86% from the previous close but still up over 8% for the week [citation:6][citation:19].
The surge in crude prices poses a significant risk to India's inflation and current account deficit, given the country is the world's third-largest crude oil importer. WTI crude stayed above $104 a barrel as markets assessed the widening impact of attacks on energy assets [citation:6].
Outlook: A senior oil analyst noted that Brent could move to $120-125 a barrel if supply disruptions in the Middle East continue. Markets will closely monitor US-Iran diplomatic developments and any further escalation in the Strait of Hormuz [citation:19].

RUPIE SPEAK: Oil remains the elephant in the room. While prices cooled slightly today, the risk of a spike to $120 is real. Every $10 rise in crude adds roughly 0.3-0.4% to inflation. Stay cautious on oil-sensitive sectors.
🇮🇳 STORY 03 · RUPEE · VIX · FLOWS
RUPEE SLIPS 7 PAISE TO 95.95; INDIA VIX COOLS 2%
The rupee weakened for the seventh consecutive session, declining 7 paise to close at 95.95 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, tracking a strong greenback overseas and foreign fund outflows. The currency opened at 95.89 and moved in a narrow range of 95.85 to 95.98 before settling lower [citation:10][citation:17].
The rupee touched a low of 95.9750 per dollar, its weakest level since July 27. Persistent interventions by the Reserve Bank of India have helped the rupee hold above the 96 per dollar mark over recent sessions [citation:4].
India VIX, the volatility gauge for the Indian equity market, cooled nearly 2% to close at 13.16, down from the previous close of 13.43, signaling some moderation in market anxiety [citation:2].
FII/DII Flows: Foreign institutional investors extended their selling streak for the fifth consecutive session, offloading equities worth ₹2,977 crore on September 15. Domestic institutional investors bought equities worth ₹2,686 crore during the session [citation:5].

RUPIE SPEAK: Rupee at 95.95 is precariously close to 96. RBI intervention is the only thing preventing a breach. VIX cooling below 13 is a positive sign, but FII selling continues — DII support is cushioning the fall.
