MARKET SNAPSHOT — WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 04, 2026

MARKET SNAPSHOT — WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 04, 2026

Indian equity benchmarks extended their winning streak into a fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with the Nifty 50 approaching the 23,960 mark and the Sensex gaining over 380 points. The market movement was primarily driven by strong buying in Metals, Consumer Durables, and PSU stocks (with BEL surging nearly 5%), alongside persistent foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows, even as heavy selling in IT stocks dragged on mid-session gains. The NSE Nifty 50 settled at 23,960.60, gaining 149.75 points, or 0.63%, while the BSE Sensex ended 383.55 points, or 0.50%, higher at 77,301.40.

📌 Story 01 · Market Close

Sensex adds 384 points, Nifty ends at 23,960 for a fifth straight gain; midcaps and smallcaps surge

Indian markets rose for a fifth straight day on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Sensex closed at 77,301.40, up 383.55 points (0.50%) and Nifty 50 closed at 23,960.60, up 149.75 points (0.63%). Nifty opened at 23,742.25, dipped to 23,696.15 and then climbed to close at the day's high, but it could not cross the 24,000 mark.

Investors kept buying across sectors on hopes of tax relief in the Union Budget, better-than-expected earnings, festive demand and softer crude oil. Foreign investors have now bought for three sessions in a row.

The broader market did even better than the big names. Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1.55% and Smallcap 100 rose 2.00%, while Nifty 100 gained 0.82%. On the Nifty 50, 36 stocks advanced and 14 declined.

📌 Story 02 · Sectors

Media, realty and metal lead; IT is the only sector in the red

Nearly every sector closed in the green. Nifty Media jumped more than 5%, the best on the day, followed by realty (+2.80%) and metal (+2.40%). PSU banks (+0.67%) and chemicals (+1.42%) also gained.

Nifty IT was the only sector that fell, down about 1.9%, as TCS, HCL Tech and Infosys slipped.

Nifty Media▲ +5%+
Nifty Realty▲ +2.80%
Nifty Metal▲ +2.40%
Cons. Durables▲ +1.82%
Nifty FMCG▲ +1.21%
Nifty Auto▲ +0.82%
Nifty Pharma▲ +0.28%
Nifty IT▼ −1.94%

Sector figures differ a little between reports (for example FMCG +1.21% to +1.5%, IT −1.5% to −1.94%). This page uses the NSE-based figures from the ANI/Tribune report.

📌 Story 03 · Movers

BEL, Adani Enterprises and Titan lead gainers; TCS, HCL Tech and BSE slip

Bharat Electronics rose 4.71% to ₹398.00, Adani Enterprises gained 4.47% and Titan gained 4.22%. Jio Financial Services and Max Healthcare were also among the top gainers.

TCS fell 2.52% and HCL Tech fell 2.37%. Infosys and Eternal also slipped. BSE Ltd, a top gainer on Tuesday, gave back 1.75%.

▲ Top gainers (Nifty 50)

BEL ₹398.00+4.71%
Adani Enterprises ₹2,709.20+4.47%
Titan ₹4,754.40+4.22%

▼ Top losers (Nifty 50)

TCS ₹2,436.00−2.52%
HCL Tech ₹1,405.00−2.37%
BSE Ltd ₹3,601.50−1.75%

Only the top three gainers and losers had confirmed prices in the reports I found, so the other names are mentioned in text only.

📌 Story 04 · Flows & Macro

Rupee gains 17 paise to 94.58; FIIs keep buying; Brent near $103

The rupee settled at 94.58 per dollar (provisional), up 17 paise from 94.75, its fourth straight gain. Analysts credit lower oil prices, steady foreign buying and a weaker dollar after the US midterm election trends.

FIIs bought ₹6,836.81 crore of shares on Tuesday, their third session of buying in a row, while DIIs sold ₹3,678 crore. Wednesday's figures were not yet published in the reports I found.

India VIX, the fear gauge, was at 15.98 (+1.65%) in the morning, its last reading I could confirm. The closing level was not available.

Brent crude fell about 0.7% to $102.84 a barrel. On MCX, gold rose about 2.3% to ₹1,42,698 per 10 g and silver about 3.8% to ₹1,86,600 per kg in the afternoon. Japan's Nikkei fell about 1.9%.

🎯 Key levels · Nifty 50

Nifty resistance 24,000–24,200; support 23,700–23,750

Resistance24,000 · 24,200
Support23,750 · 23,700

Nifty closed at the day's high but could not break 24,000. Analysts say a decisive, sustained close above 24,000 could extend the rally. Holding 23,700–23,750 is important to keep the momentum. Nifty is also above its 200-day average near 23,904 and its 50-day average near 23,196.

📡 Radar: what to watch

US midterms, crude, FII flows and IT stocks

🗳️ US midterm results · a divided Congress is weighing on the dollar and US yieldsHIGH
🛢️ Crude oil · Brent near $103, Iran talks and strike newsHIGH
📊 FII flows · Wednesday data to be checkedHIGH
💻 IT stocks · TCS, HCL Tech and Infosys under pressureMEDIUM
📈 Union Budget tax-relief hopes and more Q2 resultsMEDIUM

🎯 Bottom line · Wednesday, 4 November 2026

Sensex and Nifty extend the rally to a fifth day, but Nifty stalls just short of 24,000

Buying was wide, with media, realty, metal and consumer stocks leading and midcaps and smallcaps outperforming. IT was the lone weak sector. Nifty closed at the day's high yet could not break 24,000, so that level is the one to watch.

✅ Positives

  • Fifth straight day of gains
  • Midcap +1.55%, Smallcap +2.00%
  • All sectors except IT closed higher
  • Rupee up 17 paise to 94.58
  • FIIs bought ₹6,836.81 crore on Tuesday

⚠️ Watch out

  • Nifty failed to cross 24,000
  • IT down about 1.9%; TCS, HCL Tech, Infosys fell
  • DIIs sold ₹3,678 crore on Tuesday
  • India VIX near 16

🎯 What's next: Resistance is at 24,000–24,200 and support at 23,700–23,750. A close above 24,000 would extend the rally, while a slide below 23,700 would show the market is pausing. Watch crude prices, US election results and FII flows.
