NIFTY RECLAIMS 22,750; SENSEX JUMPS 685 POINTS AS GLOBAL CUES IMPROVE
Indian equity benchmarks extended their recovery for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, with the Nifty 50 reclaiming the 22,750 mark and the Sensex surging over 685 points amid broad-based buying and positive global cues. [citation:1][citation:7]
The Nifty settled at 22,776.10, gaining 220.35 points or 0.98%, while the BSE Sensex ended 685.34 points, or 0.95%, higher at 73,067.81. [citation:8][citation:12]
The market opened strong with positive global cues and sustained momentum through the session, with heavyweight stocks leading the advance. [citation:13]
🔑 Key Driver: Positive global cues, easing crude oil prices, and strong September-quarter business updates lifted sentiment ahead of the RBI's monetary policy decision. [citation:13]
Sector Gainers: FMCG, consumer durables, metals and pharma stocks saw active buying interest, with broader markets participating in the rally. [citation:19]
FMCG, METALS AND PHARMA LEAD; BROADER MARKETS OUTPERFORM
FMCG stocks continued their advance for a second straight session, led by Godrej Consumer and Radico Khaitan. [citation:9] Metal and pharma stocks also saw buying interest with broader markets actively participating in the rally. [citation:19]
Trent shares jumped after reporting multi-quarter-high revenue growth in Q2, while Kotak Mahindra Bank gained on strong Q2 advances and deposit growth. [citation:19]
Among Nifty 50 stocks, Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank and HUL were the top gainers, while Coal India, Tech Mahindra and Max Healthcare were the top losers. [citation:19]
RUPEE SLIPS TO 2-MONTH LOW; VIX CRASHES 8% AS PANIC SUBSIDES
The rupee weakened 8 paise to settle at 96.43 against the US dollar on Tuesday, its weakest closing level in more than two months, pressured by persistent foreign investor outflows and oil companies' dollar demand. [citation:16][citation:20]
India VIX, the volatility gauge, crashed 8.25% to 13.56 from the previous close of 14.78, signaling a sharp easing of near-term panic from last week's sell-off. [citation:3]
FII/DII Flows: FIIs extended their selling streak, offloading equities worth ₹2,961.30 crore on Tuesday. DIIs continued to provide strong support, purchasing ₹5,088.92 crore during the same session. [citation:11]
