📆 03 NOV 2026 · CLOSING BELLSensex surges 1,225 points, Nifty reclaims 23,800 as earnings optimism lifts markets
Indian markets rose for a fourth straight day on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. Sensex closed at 76,917.85, up 1,225.07 points (1.62%) and Nifty 50 closed at 23,810.85, up 370.05 points (1.58%), the highest levels in nearly two months. Nifty closed at the day's high after opening at 23,582.25, and has gained about 5% in four sessions.
Strong company results, falling crude oil (Brent near $105) and a shift away from global AI-linked stocks lifted sentiment. NSE-listed companies added about ₹4.71 lakh crore in market value, taking the total to ₹483.1 lakh crore.
Breadth was positive: 2,127 stocks rose against 1,477 that fell on the NSE, and 39 of the 50 Nifty stocks advanced. Mid and small caps gained less than the big names, with Midcap 100 up 1.06% and Smallcap 100 up 0.31%.
FMCG, realty, private banks and autos lead; PSU banks slip
Nifty FMCG led the day with a jump of about 3.65%, as investors bought consumer goods companies on earnings and demand hopes. Realty, private banks and autos also did well.
PSU banks were the worst sector and fell 1.27%, and metals ended slightly lower.
Sector figures differ a little between reports (for example FMCG +2.5% to +3.65%). This page uses the numbers most reports agree on.
BSE, Nestle India and Tata Consumer lead gainers; Power Grid and SBI slip
BSE Ltd rose 5.03%, Nestle India gained 4.47% and Tata Consumer Products gained 4.29%. Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel rose about 4%.
Power Grid fell 3.04% and SBI slipped 1.70% on the day it reported its Q2 results. Outside the Nifty 50, Marico rose about 10% and Trident about 7% after its board approved a ₹4,650 crore expansion plan.
▲ Top gainers (Nifty 50)
▼ Top losers (Nifty 50)
Rupee gains 16 paise to 94.74; VIX rises to 15.67; oil near $105
The rupee closed at 94.74 per dollar, up 16 paise (about 0.15%) from 94.90, as cooling commodity prices eased worry about the import bill. Analysts say its path now depends on commodity prices, the dollar and foreign fund flows.
India VIX, the fear gauge, rose 1.09% to 15.67 even as the market rallied, so some nervousness is still there.
FII and DII flows for Tuesday were not yet published in the reports I found. On Monday, FIIs bought ₹3,114.68 crore of shares for the second session in a row, while DIIs sold ₹392.20 crore.
Brent crude was near $105 a barrel after falling 7.6% on Monday to $104.77. It ticked up on a report that the US struck Iran's Qeshm Island. On MCX in the afternoon, gold was near ₹1,38,398 per 10 g (−1.28%) and silver near ₹1,77,085 per kg (−3.64%).
Nifty resistance 23,800–23,900; support 23,200–23,500
Nifty closed at the day's high and above its 50-day average. The recovery looks encouraging, but analysts say it may meet resistance at 23,800–23,900. In a pullback, 23,200–23,500 is the immediate support zone.
🗣️ Rupie Speak
Crude, US midterms, FII flows and the rupee
Nifty reclaims 23,800 and Sensex jumps 1,225 points for a fourth straight gain
Markets extended the rally on strong earnings and cooler crude, with the Nifty ending at the day's high. FMCG, realty, private banks and autos led, while PSU banks lagged. After a rise of about 5% in four sessions, the Nifty may meet resistance near 23,800–23,900.
✅ Positives
- Nifty closes at the day's high, near a two-month high
- FMCG up about 3.65%
- 2,127 advances against 1,477 declines
- Rupee up 16 paise to 94.74
- Brent near $105, down from $118
⚠️ Watch out
- India VIX up 1.09% to 15.67
- PSU banks down 1.27%; Power Grid and SBI fell
- Mid and small caps gained less than large caps
- US midterm results and Iran news
🎯 What's next: Resistance is at 23,800–23,900 and support at 23,200–23,500. A close above 23,900 would extend the rally, while a slide below 23,500 would show the market is pausing. Watch crude prices, the US election results and FII flows.
