Indian markets started the week with a big rally on Monday, 2 November 2026. Nifty 50 closed at 23,440.80, up 387.70 points (1.68%) and Sensex closed at 75,692.78, up 1,233.25 points (1.66%), a near two-month high.
Three things drove it. Reliance Industries jumped 11.6% to ₹1,300 after strong Q2 results, with consolidated profit up 40.6% to ₹25,548 crore against estimates of ₹21,419 crore. Crude oil fell, and foreign investors bought shares.
Unlike Friday's narrow IT and pharma rally, this one was wide. 2,668 stocks rose against 1,469 that fell, and Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 gained about 1.2% and 0.7%.
🗣️ Rupie Speak निफ्टी 23,440 पर बंद हुआ, यानी 387 अंक की बड़ी छलांग। सेंसेक्स 1,233 अंक चढ़ा। रिलायंस के दमदार नतीजों, कच्चे तेल के सस्ता होने और विदेशी निवेशकों की खरीदारी से बाज़ार में दिवाली जैसा माहौल रहा। निफ्टी 23,400 के ऊपर टिका है और आगे 23,500-23,600 का इलाका बाधा माना जा रहा है।
Oil & gas, metal and PSU banks lead; IT and pharma slip
Nifty Oil & Gas led, powered by Reliance. Metal stocks followed: Tata Steel +5.83%, JSW Steel +5.13% and Coal India +4.88%. PSU banks, autos and consumer durables also traded firmly.
IT and pharma were weaker as investors booked profits after Friday's rally. Infosys fell 2.03%.

Reliance, Tata Steel and JSW Steel lead gainers; Infosys and ICICI Bank slip
Reliance Industries was the star. It rose 11.60% to ₹1,300, its biggest one-day gain since April 2020, and its market value went past ₹17 lakh crore. Tata Steel and JSW Steel followed.
On the other side, Infosys, ICICI Bank and Dr. Reddy's slipped as IT and pharma saw profit-booking.

Rupee little changed at 94.90; VIX rises 1.31% to 15.50; FIIs buy
The rupee closed at 94.90 per dollar, little changed to slightly higher (about 0.12%), as traders stayed careful before the US midterm elections on Tuesday.
India VIX, the fear gauge, rose 1.31% to 15.50 even as the market rallied. This means some nervousness remains.
Provisional data shows FIIs bought about ₹3,344 crore of shares while DIIs sold about ₹700 crore. Brent crude cooled to about $109 a barrel from last Friday's high of $118.
Flow figures are provisional and can change when the final NSE data comes out.

Nifty support 23,250–23,350; resistance 23,500–23,600
Nifty closed above 23,400 and above its 50-day average. If it slips below 23,250, the older support at 22,800 matters again.

Markets began the week strongly. Unlike Friday's narrow IT and pharma led move, Monday's rally was wide, led by heavyweights and cyclical sectors. Strong Reliance results, falling crude and foreign buying helped. The rise in India VIX shows some caution remains ahead of the US midterms.
