📆 06 NOV 2026 · CLOSING BELLDhanteras rally: Sensex jumps 1,718 points to 81,028, Nifty reclaims 25,000 for a seventh straight gain
Indian markets rallied for a seventh straight day on Friday, 6 November 2026, which was Dhanteras. Sensex closed at 81,028.02, up 1,718.01 points (2.17%) and Nifty 50 closed at 25,030.35, up 493.75 points (2.01%). Nifty opened at 24,538.20, fell to 24,388.05 early on, and then climbed all day to close at its high, back above 25,000.
The market held up even though global tech shares fell sharply and Asian markets were weak. Investors kept moving money out of AI-linked trades into Indian large caps, helped by foreign buying and good Q2 results. Nifty's P/E is about 19x, a four-year low. BSE's total market value crossed ₹500 lakh crore for the first time.
The rally was narrow, though. Of the Nifty 50, 46 stocks rose and 4 fell, but across the NSE 2,141 stocks fell against 1,439 that rose. Nifty Midcap 100 was flat (−0.02%) and Smallcap 100 fell 0.82%.
Financials and banks lead; media and energy slip
10 of 12 sectors closed higher. Financial services (+2.57%) and banks (+2.27%) led by a wide margin. Pharma rose 1.21%, and auto, FMCG, metal, PSU banks and IT also gained.
Nifty Media was the weakest at −1.52%, after falling 0.8% on Thursday. Energy was slightly lower at −0.05% in one report, while another showed Oil & Gas up 0.64%.
Sector figures come from the DSIJ report (NSE indices). Another report showed Oil & Gas +0.64%, so energy-related figures differ.
M&M, ICICI Bank and HDFC Life lead gainers; Power Grid, Eicher and Tata Motors PV slip
Mahindra & Mahindra jumped 5.11% to ₹3,287.20 after its strong Q2 results. ICICI Bank gained 4.75% and HDFC Life 3.95%. Titan, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank also rose more than 3%. ICICI Bank (+112 points), HDFC Bank (+95) and Bharti Airtel (+34) added the most to the Nifty.
Only 4 Nifty stocks fell, and the losses were small. Power Grid slipped about 1.2%, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles fell 0.58%, Eicher Motors 0.56% and Shriram Finance 0.30%. Grasim was also lower.

FIIs bought ₹14,975 crore on Thursday; VIX jumps in the morning; Brent near $97
FIIs bought ₹14,974.68 crore of shares on Thursday and DIIs sold ₹10,444.54 crore, as per the NSE data. FIIs have bought for five straight sessions, and their net buying for November so far is about ₹22,693 crore (NSDL, till 5 Nov). Friday's flows were not yet published.
India VIX closed Thursday at 15.58. On Friday morning it jumped 7.77% to 16.75 as global tech shares fell. I could not find its closing level.
The rupee was flat at 94.46 per dollar on Thursday (provisional) and opened about 9 paise lower on Friday. I could not find Friday's closing level.
Brent crude traded near $97–99 a barrel and MCX gold slipped about 1.2% to ₹1,42,379 per 10 g, with silver about 1.1% lower at ₹1,85,177 per kg, in the afternoon. It was Dhanteras, when families buy gold and silver.
Nifty resistance 25,200–25,500; support 24,700–24,800
Nifty closed at the day's high of 25,030.35 after a low of 24,388.05. Religare's Ajit Mishra says holding above 24,500 is key and the next target zone is 25,200–25,500. Another analyst, Vipin Dixena, calls 25,000 extended, expects profit-booking next week and names 24,700–24,800 as key support, and notes that mid and small caps are seeing profit-booking.
Global tech, FII flows, VIX and narrow breadth
Dhanteras rally: Sensex jumps 1,718 points to 81,028 and Nifty reclaims 25,000 for a seventh day
Financials and banks drove the move, with M&M, ICICI Bank and HDFC Life leading and foreign buying continuing. The market ignored a global tech sell-off and closed at the day's high. The breadth was weak, though, with more NSE stocks falling than rising and small caps lower, so the rally rests on large caps.
✅ Positives
- Seventh straight day of gains; Nifty back above 25,000
- 46 of 50 Nifty stocks rose
- FIIs bought ₹14,975 crore on Thursday
- Bank and financial stocks lead
- BSE market value above ₹500 lakh crore
⚠️ Watch out
- 2,141 NSE stocks fell vs 1,439 that rose
- Smallcap 100 down 0.82%
- India VIX up 7.77% in the morning
- DIIs sold ₹10,445 crore on Thursday
- Profit-booking risk near 25,000
🎯 What's next: Resistance is at 25,200–25,500 and support at 24,700–24,800. Holding above 24,500 keeps the trend positive, while a fall below 24,700 would signal profit-booking. Watch global tech shares, FII flows and the VIX.
